Goddamn Blogger ....

It's been more like "Bogger" lately, being slow and dodgy. Just now I wrote a rather long posts, with lots of links and whatnot, hit "publish," and after a lengthy delay I received an "Internal Server Error" message for my troubles. I've liked Blogger so far, but lately it's been asswich. I'm too lazy to shop around for another service right now, so lets hope Blogger gets well quick.

I know what you mean. I've taken to writing things in MS Word and then cutting and pasting them (except for some reason I then get double-spaced lines between paragraphs that I then have to delete). I really miss Wordpress, and hosting can be had for $3 a month (plus another $15 or so for the domain name). But then I am too busy right now to set it all up, and actually too broke for the $15 (really! or at least, I can't justify spending $15 on something that doesn't physically exist). The new changes to Blogger are great (better comments, as well as being able to fully edit your .css), and I guess I spent as much time fighting comment spam when I used Wordpress as I do now being frustrated by Blogger. It was fun downloading all the different hacks people had written to combat the comment spam, but also a big ass pain to deal with, and it's never been an issue with Blogger.

Thinking aloud...

it's possible that your post isn't lost--sometimes when i get errors, the post will still be in my list of posts (like when you click on "edit posts"), just it won't have made it onto the website. then you can just click "submit this post" until it works.

It took me for-freaking-ever to get the stupid comment box to come up so I could write this comment.

I used to always write my blog in another app (I used QuarkXpress because I always had it open at work anyway and I hate MSWord) and cut 'n' paste, but then Blogger became more stable and I got lazy about it. Now that Blogger is shite again I suppose I should go back to that better practice.

If I could actually reach the point where Blogger lets me see my posts I could check to see if it's there, but right now Blogger won't let me do anything at all. It just sits there and says "Loading" for ever and ever.

If Blogger stays shite for the next week I'll start looking into alternatives.

If you do go for hosting, learn from my mistake and make damn sure that "bunchofpants.com" is absolutely definitely registered to your name. If you get your host to register it for you they may do it in their name and simply tell you it's in yours. Urf. And then if they're like Bloghosts.com they'll close down and do a runner.

Damn. It just took Blogger a full half-hour of open up a goddamn comment window so I could comment in my own blog. Asswich. Anyway, I've been owning me the "bunchofpants.com" domain for almost a year now, and I never bother to publish my blog to it because it was just so easy not to. All I would need then is something to publish with that's as easy as Blogger and I'll be set.

Go for Wordpress... it's the best. You should be able to find a host that will set you up with the software up and running. Then it's just a matter of finding a template you like, and tweaking it to suit your tastes/obsessions.

Yeah, I always copy my posts to Notepad or something right before hitting "Publish." Blogger is very annoying sometimes. Then sometimes it's fine. I don't get it.
