It's official, everyone hates me

According to a University of Minnesota study, atheists are the least trusted minority in the US and the the minority group most Americans are least willing to allow their children to marry.

Fortunately, it turns out that it's mostly only the stupid people who think this: "The researchers also found acceptance or rejection of atheists is related not only to personal religiosity, but also to one’s exposure to diversity, education and political orientation—with more educated, East and West Coast Americans more accepting of atheists than their Midwestern counterparts."

I will continue pretending to pray along whenever they open a meeting or other work function with a prayer ...

you can just say "watermelon, watermelon, watermelon" instead of praying. it's what i used to do. ;D

of course, since i moved from the bible belt, this problem really hasn't come up....

ok, i have lived in NC all my life, and i'm still shocked that meetings at a GOVERNMENT AGENCY are opened with prayer!

i'm pretty sure that's illegal.

Oh, sure it would probably lose any court challenge ... but which brave atheist is going to take it on, knowing that it's the kind of thing that would stir the murderous rage that seems to boil just underneath every Christian's skin? Since I prefer not to be murdered somewhere between the parking deck and my office, it's not going to be me ...

You know they open the NC State Fair every year with a prayer ... maybe some brave non-state employee would like to to take that one on ...

If it helps, I've always hated you, even before I knew you were a dirty dirty godless heathen. ; )

And then there's article 6, section 8 of the North Carolina constitution:

Sec. 8. Disqualifications for office.

The following persons shall be disqualified for office:

First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.

it's not just Christians -- Joe Leiberman is on record as saying that it's impossible to have morals without religion. Mmmm, amorality.

Ah, yes, people with little intellectial elasticity cannot fathom that anyone can discern right from wrong without being told by God, or whoever ...
