Just squint through the ads ...

Surprise! That sinkhole of mostly suck, Salon, actually has two articles worth sitting throught their mandatory ad for:
The "hiding among civilians" myth--Israel claims it's justified in bombing civilians because Hezbollah mingles with them. In fact, the militant group doesn't trust its civilians and stays as far away from them as possible.
Watching Beirut die--We went to Beirut to film a TV show about the city's newly vibrant culinary and cultural scene. Then the bombs started falling, and we could only stand on the barricades of our hotel balcony and watch it all disappear -- again. (By Anthony Bourdain).

Obviously the Salonites understand operant conditioning and the value of intermittent reinforcement very well--just when I get to the point when I'm ready to stop checking their mostly shit site every day they dangle a treat in front of my nose to keep me coming back.

What is interesting about that argument that the Hezbollah fighters are hiding among the ordinary population is that it does not justify the israeli attacks either morally or legally.

To kill hundreds of civilians (or in 1982 25,000) to get Hezbollah (or Hamas, or Fatah) fighters is as illogical as it is immoral. But most importantly, however many times israel repeats it, it is not any kind of defense in international law. It is the same as their frequent claim that by announcing to civilians that they are going to bomb the area they have done their legal duty. What international law says is that if the enemy is hiding within a civilian population then you canNOT attack that area; if you make repeated announcements to a civilian population that you are going to bomb the area and the civilians don't leave then under international law you CANNOT bomb the target. It seems to be a myth swallowed wholesale by the media that israeil is somehow following international law by these actions.

I am now just hoping for a surgical strike on Mel Gibson. Of course if israel destroyed half of L.A. to kill gibson then the US government would still back them, in the same was as the Canadian government can't prasie highly enough of the israeli attacks that have killed 9 Canadians.

Thanks for the good points, Andrew. I haven't written much on this topic because it just pisses me of sooooooo much ... I'm afraid I'll say something that will put me on someone's list, if you know what I mean. I'm filled with rage ...

Same here. I have been raging about this for 20 years and nothing has changed. Oh well at least that war criminal sharon will soon be dead and we can dance on his blubbery blubbery grave.
